can someone out there tell me the size of the mounting plate for the stern light that attaches to the stern rails.for some reason or another the po decided to remove it.

How is your present light attached? If there is none, pick your new one, take it to a machine shop and have a mounting plate made to fit with appropriate mounting holes for the light and bracket for the mount.
The original plate was probably knocked off by accident. On my older boat the plate was welded to the push pit.
Alternatively, you can buy a Magma Grill mounting bracket that attaches to a 1" rail and the bracket flange will hold the light.

If you plan on welding one back on , just measure your stern light and cut the new one to fit. They used to make rail mounted plates that don't need to be welded. My plates are the original ones for the large OEM lights. I replaced them with the smaller Aqua Signal LED lights but used the existing plates. I may cut them down eventually. I can measure mine this afternoon if you desire to have the original size.
