mounting an outboard motor bracket

I just bought a 8 hp honda for my 22 ft hunter. Now I have to put a heavier mounting bracket on the boat. I bought the fulton bracket but the directions are'nt to clear. I think my old bracket was mounted to low because with the motor raised it was still in the water about 4 inches.Can anybody tell me the correct way to mount the bracket. Motor clearance?

George, Is your motor still in the water because you can't tip or rotate it enough in the motorwell to allow it to come to the second (full up)locking position. Does the control handle hit the motorwell forward bulkhead. If that is your problem then I think I can help, except my solution would relate to your first mount. I have no experence with your new mount. Ray
