Good day. We're thinking of mounting a Vizio 32" LED-LCD flat panel TV on the forward bulkhead in our B361. I saw a photo posted in the photo gallery on this site of a TV that was mounted on a B361. The photo is listed as being posted by Ron Harr.

I'm looking for any input and feedback as to the best way of mounting and running the power along with the antenna. We're looking at a Shakespeare mast mounted TV antenna to pick up local broadcasts.

If Ron is still on this board, would love to get your feedback on how you did yours.

Same boat, same question!! I hope you get an answer.
I was also thinking installing the TV on the wall outside the heads (facing the forward bulkhead) but I have no idea how to get the antenna cable over there.
If we could get some pictures from Ron would be great.

Well, my options and set-up are a little different, but I didn't want to mount anything to the bulkhead. I had shelf that placed the screen perfectly for lounging in the settee berth. A 22 in. LCD on its own pedestal that I secured down with shock cord worked.

Luken,
Yes, this is Ron. Glad you found the photo. I drilled a very pretty hole in the bulkhead to run the cables. One side is hidden by the TV and the other side is inside the locker in the V berth. Measure carefully! I bought a "fixed wall mount" at an electronic store and shimmed it so that the TV is angled about 10 degrees down (so that my eyes are perpendicular to the screen at seated height. I didn't want an articulating mount because I thought it might adjust itself in heavy seas. It has worked out very well. My TV is a 20 inch and I've thought about moving up to a 26 inch (it will fit).
Good luck with your project. We really enjoy ours. We run it off the inverter and I have a small TV antennae in the first spreader. The picture is amazing.

Thanks,

I mounted a 19" LCD with built in DVD player in the same location on my 361. Drilled a hole behind the TV into the locker in the V-Beth, and installed a plug in the locker. This plug is powered by a 400w inverter located in the electrical panel. The electrical runs along the side of the boat following the path of the electrical for the reading lights. Don't watch over the air broadcasts so don't have an antenna.

I bought an RCA digital antenna for 25$ at Best Buy. I think KMart has it for 15 this week? Works okay. Picks up THISTV which is not on cable.

Ron, thanks for the feedback. Quick couple of questions. What mast mounted antenna are you using? I'm looking at the Shakespeare 2020-G unidirectional antenna. Also, about how many hours do you think you put into the project? We're having our B361 hauled next week for bottom paint and other misc stuff, and was thinking about having the yard do the labor of mounting the antenna and running the coax inside the mast down to the TV.

Digital Antenna

Luken7,
I've got a glomax 10" mounted on the first spreader. It's actually the second antenna mounted there because I knocked one off during a high wind tack a few years ago. If I were going to hire someone to run a cable, I would go all the way to the masthead and mount a small antenna on a bracket forward of the mast. You will get better reception up high and not have to worry about a sail slapping it off of the spreader.
I also have a signal amplifier mounted on the port buckhead at the nav station. This works very well when we are a long way from the broadcast tower to strengthen the signal. Both the Glomax and the Shakespeare come with one of these amplifiiers. (You can by a Glomax without it, but not a Shakespeare). My cable then travels forward to the bow, then back down the starboard side into the locker in the V berth. From there it goes thru the bulkhead hole and into the TV.
Best of luck! Let me know if I didn't answer anything.
Happy New Year,
Ron (on Agaliha)

Finally got some photos of my installation. One shot from the front and the other from behind the wall. Used stainless cap nuts to finish it off there.

I just got an estimate for just running an antenna coax down the mast, through the deck and to the tv mounted on the bulkhead. The yard estimates it will cost $600. Wow. Who has run their own antenna coax and has some good advise?
