Good Morning
Scored a nice Garhauer Outboard Lifting Davit at Sailorman in Ft. Lauderdale and wondering if anyone has done the install of the base plate with the ball on their Hunter. I am thinking of the traditional 'drill through the topsides' approach and bolt with a backing plate but very interested in other approaches. This picture shows a SS rack that was put in place by the PO for Outboard storage on the port side of the cockpit so thinking to place Davit in that back port corner, outside the arch, on the area further port of the water hose connect and to the left of the SS rack shown. Pictures are appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Unless the ball is on a sloping surface (which it shouldn't be), then there is no need to do this at all. Think about it: the base of the tube simply sits on the ball, with the middle of the tube supported by the circular fitting clipped to the pushpit rail. I just screwed mine into my coaming, 15 years ago, it's still there:

No need to overthink such project. Pick out a suitable spot, place masking tape over the area and drill pilot holes.
