Motor Too Big??

I bought a used Cat 22 last year and it came with a 15hp motor. I trail/sailed it a few times and all that power was nice when I ended up far from the launch and the wind died or shifted. This year I am going to put the boat on a mooring. Will the motor weigh the stern down too much? I want to make sure the cockpit drains. Thanks John

2 stroke or a four stroke

John the first question I would ask is " is it a two or a four stroke engine" If it is a four it will be way to heavy for the boat and will effect everything. If it is a two stroke it will be on the upper line of to heavy but I would run it if that is what I have. I would down size when i bought a new motor. As far as the ockpit draining you will probably notice a little water retention in the stearn but not enough to worry about.

You can get by with a 4 to 6 horse.

Only you can be the judge of that....

... see how it looks from a distance or put a level on the boat. Or try counter balancing the motor by putting something heavy up front.

15 HP

John...............A 15HP is probably larger than most..... but not unheard of.If you want to make sure your cockpit drains.... that is another issue. I installed auxilliary drains thru the transom for about $20 because it give's me peace of mind.If interested...... contact me off list and I will share the web page with you.kennethbernard2@attbi.com
