I bought a used Cat 22 last year and it came with a 15hp motor. I trail/sailed it a few times and all that power was nice when I ended up far from the launch and the wind died or shifted. This year I am going to put the boat on a mooring. Will the motor weigh the stern down too much? I want to make sure the cockpit drains. Thanks John

2 stroke or a four stroke

John the first question I would ask is " is it a two or a four stroke engine" If it is a four it will be way to heavy for the boat and will effect everything. If it is a two stroke it will be on the upper line of to heavy but I would run it if that is what I have. I would down size when i bought a new motor. As far as the ockpit draining you will probably notice a little water retention in the stearn but not enough to worry about.

Only you can be the judge of that....

... see how it looks from a distance or put a level on the boat. Or try counter balancing the motor by putting something heavy up front.

15 HP

John............... A 15HP is probably larger than most..... but not unheard of. If you want to make sure your cockpit drains.... that is another issue. I installed auxilliary drains thru the transom for about $20 because it give's me peace of mind. If interested...... contact me off list and I will share the web page with you. kennethbernard2@attbi.com
