motor shaft length

catalina 25, 30 montauk / manhattan
on my 86 cat 25 have an 8HP which has a shaft length i believe to be 20". however the prop barely breaks the surface. looking around doesn't appear others have extra long. assuming i have a standard bracket not sure why mine is different?

The PO screwed up

The previous owner made a mistake. You need a 25" or 28" shaft. With some motors you can buy a shaft component that will allow you to lengthen your shaft.
