Cathy, If you are going to replace it with a new motor, save yourself some money and downsize a little. I have used a 9.9 Nissan on a Catalina 25 and O'Day 26, and in calm water, I have no trouble reaching hull speed at half throttle. A lot would depend on tides and currents that you sail in, but for a 222, my opinion (worth what you just paid for it) is that a 5 - 6 HP motor will kick you along just fine.
