For those who remember, my port motor mounts failed a year ago. I finally got around to fixing them and found an interesting issue.
Seems the reason the mount failed was Hunter installed them wrong. The mount was on the far left side of the mount housing. The upper mounting bold only caught part of the backing plate and bottom bolt missed it all together.
My plan was to center the mounting bracket on the mount housing, then install large backing plates. Lo and behold, when I drilled into the mount housing, I hit aluminum! All it took from there was to tap the holes, reposition the mount on the motor transom and repair the old holes.
I didn't take pictures of the work in progress, but might be able to get some of the finished work (still don't have the gelcoat on the repair, so the naked epoxy repair makes me feel right at home here in Mississippi).
