This is my first yr with my 331 2004 beneteau . I was wondering if anyone else has problems in the lower rpms on the yanmar engine on the 331. Everytime I am leaving or coming into port my boats shakes enough to pop out my dentures if I had them . The motor runs smooth otherwise, I am told that it is caused by soft motor mounts and if so have you replaced them with harder ones ? Also another question I have is where have you installed your fire extinguishers ? Thank You Rob

Rob, it may be that your idle speed

is simply set too low. I had that problem on my '94 OC400 with a Perkins engine. It would make alarming noises when shifted in/out forward/reverse, and I even had a mechanic tell me I needed a xmission rebuild, but one day I noted that when it shook, the idle was down around 750. I broke the seal on the adjusting screw, brought it up to 950, and everything was good after that. Smooth running, good, positive shifting, no more problems. Check your idle speed and adjust if needed.

Idle speed

I'll second Larry's comments on idle speed. Had to adjust the RPMs on my 361 with a Westerbeke for the same reason.

Vibrations..

Rob, I have a Westerbeke in my 2004 B331, it doesn't like the low rpm at all. My mechanic warned me of the soft motor mounts and the need to keep the rpm around 1100 rpm. When I first got it last year I had harmonic issues as well, which I we believe was air getting behind the shaft seal when she was pulled for inspection. The mechanic stated the soft mounts are fine but to keep the rpm up. Without the soft mounts and if it hit a low rpm, it would really shake you up. On the fire extinguishers, never found a good spot either, I keep one in each locker as well as in the lazerette. Better aesthetics being hidden but they are quickly available. Mac

I second, or third or fourth, the fire

extinguisher issue. You'd think a builder like Beneteau, BUILDING BOATS IN THE USA, would be aware of USCG rules and regs, and have a dedicated place for the required number of devices. BUUUUT NOOOOO!! Makes me wonder.
