Motor mounts for the Yanmar in a 1997 Hunter 376.

Hello everyone.
I hope everyone is well and your boats are healthy.
Just returned from an American Legion Yacht Club get together at Two Harbors, Catalina Island. Good time and nice, but chilly sails, both ways.
The engine was vibrating when we motored to the bouy so we had a look. It’s time to replace the motor mounts. My question is, shall I stick with the stock mounts, or is there something better?
Thanks to anyone who will share their thoughts/experiences.
Fair winds.
Tim

Good one, but really. There may be aftermarkets that are superior to the mounts that came with the boat, 21 years ago.
Thanks.

There are none better but there are cheaper ones. I went with the Yannies because it was the only way to be sure but it was not cheap.

Thank you. I’m not looking for cheap, just quality. The originals lasted 20 years, but only 350 engine hours.
Did you buy them through Hunter Owners, Sailboat Owners or Yanmar?
Best regards,
Tim

Depends on your motor - you did not say which one you have.

If Yanmar then try this. https://store.pyiinc.com/products/yanmar-engine-mounts?variant=28924295693. Call them, ask questions - very helpful folk.

As to the Yanmar official mounts they are marked 50 75 100 150 etc. Small point maybe but beware which ones go where. For example, in the case of the 2GM20/3GM30 the official parts catalog shows 75 in the front and 100 in the rear whereas the official installation manual shows exactly the opposite.

Thanks Charles,
The Yanmar mounts should come with a hotel room on the beach and a pitcher of margaritas! $600+ for 4 mounts?!?! For a 3 cylinder 36 hp engine?!?!
I’ve ordered them but I really do feel that this is piracy!!!
Best regards,
Tim

I agree with Diablito. OEM Yanmar parts are crazy expensive sometimes. There is serious lack of competition as well, at least in Southern Cal (san diego). Yanmar restricts parts to dealers by zone last time I checked. So if I want to by motor mounts from a dealer on the east coast I don't think they'll sell to me in CA...

RF,
You are 100% on the money. Even their websites identify the states where the can do business. California isn’t one of them. CC Marine, Marina Del Rey, gets about $14.00 apiece more than the Eastern US dealers. To top that off their (East coast) price of $148 each is hiway robbery.

Oh well, screwed again, no kisses!

On another note, is your boat an H376 and is it rigged for anything larger than a 100% jib? Mine is not, winch and block wise.
I’ve installed a track, car and spinnaker pole and can, barely, use the standard Lewmar 40s just to get the jib out when running. I’d like to add winches aft and there are removable velcroed pads in the master’s cabin where optional winches will attach. My concern is placement of blocks to guide the jibsheets to the winches.
If you do have the aft winches please post a picture.

Thanks.

Tim

Hi Tim.
My headsail is 100%. No aft winches. I do run an Asymmetrical on longer downwind like coming back from Catalina or Dana Pt. But I have to run the sheets aft thru a block then forward to the winch. Kinda a pain. Which is why I don’t use it often.

Hello Bob,
Will you send a picture of your aft block location? This is a shot of my whisker pole set up, with some friends. I’d prefer to run the sheet aft, even though I use fore and aft guys with the pole.
The advantage to sail wing on wing, with the pole, is even better than I expected.
Thanks!
Tim

Thanks tim.
I need to have her hauled for bottom paint and throuh hulls, but I plan to wait until October.
I’ll do the motor mount installation myself. The alignment too. The plan is to take a day of vacation to do the job, sooner than the haul out.
Fair Winds.
