I'm in the process of replacing my motor mount with a new one. I bought a Garelick mount that seems that it should work fine. (see link) I have a Honda 8hp 4 stroke. I had to modify the holes on the mount to fit my existing holes on the transom to mount it. This mount is MUCH better than the old Catalina mount that I'm replacing, that thing was all floppy and looked like it was about to drop and take the motor to the bottom with it. Question: If a mount is rated for 115lbs and 7-20 horsepower why do they say it isn't recommended for a 4 stroke? My 4 stroke is 8hp and somewhere between 85-95ish lbs. Why do some say not for 4 stroke, and others are? Even if the weight and horsepower is within the limits?

weaker motor mount

Tom, I would stay away from the smaller, weaker brother motor mount. If the company is not reccommending the smaller one for four strokes, why would you? It does look a little weaker, and maybe the torque of the four stroke will start to twist the frame to much for you to operate it smoothly, if at all. How old is your boat? Well your motor mount is probably that old as well. Will this newer, weaker, one last as long? See ya, Jay

mount

The boat is a 1971 model (#880). The old mount that came with it was pretty floppy. One of the black plastic (now bronze on the new ones) was broken and a previous owner did a funky repair, but it was only held on with 3 pivot points then. I tried making a replacement for the bushing, but it wasn't strong enough. So....the search for a new mount has started. The guy at the boat store though it would be fine, but then again, he can't be an expert in everything in the shop! I had to modify the holes with a grinder to fit my existing holes on the boat, but now I woke up this morning thinking "oh...cr*p! I didn't check the motor tilt to see if there was clearence!" So I'll run out and check that. Hmm...this may just end up on Craigslist or Ebay if I screwed up again. *Sigh* Tom
