On Hunter 240 previous change used 2x4 fiberglassed to hold 15 hp motor. Fiberglass cracked and began to grow fungus. Where can i find something/ to(what) to replace 2x4 mount? Are the motor lifts offered through West a reasonable and viable answer to issue?

yes my transom is now junk unless you want to start a mushroom farm. Not excited about a rail mount. Like idea of a lifting mechanism vs climbing under lifelind to tilt motor whe sailing.

The transom was designed for 10 hp motors or less. 15 hp not only are heavier but the power is way too much creating many stresses on the transom. Suggest loosing that engine. A picture of the transom is requested so we can actually look at the damage on the transom. I am a retired dealer for Hunter involved with the design and top dealer for that model. Was looking at owners manual. 5-8 hp recomended for a 240. Need to find what that means in weight. Saw a 8hp mercury that weights more than the 15 I have.

I ordered a motor mounting block from HunterOwners site. Hopefully it will be here before sailing season in Indiana arrives.

Thanks for the heads up CaveRun.

That should work well. Not sure why the old one is so wide? Did they have a trolling motor on there too?
