Motor Mount Weight Limits.....

I currently have an older 2-stroke 8HP on my 1994 Hunter 23.5 and want to upgrade. I really want to get a new motor the will provide electrical power to charge the battery while under power. I like to spend weekends onboard but I am concerned about the use of the battery. The only motors I have found with generator weigh about 114-120lbs.....Will the boat handle this ok? I do not want to install the motor and watch the motor mount fall into the water with my new motor attached. Any Comments.

May be Able to Add One

I have a 6HP Merc on mine and I could add the alternator but found it was better for me to add a second battery.

Dave, I have a 84 Honda 9.9 hp 4 stroke...

that weighs about 87 lbs. and has a 5 amp charging circuit. This normally keeps our battery charged up. Most motors with in the past 12 years have charging abilities. Ray

solar power

Another option for keeping your battery charged is a solar power. We have one on our 240 and the battery is always charged.

new motor mount

Dave I would recommend getting a 4 stroke mounting bracket. I got mine from west marine. It is the fulton bracket with the 14.5 travel up and down. Be careful there is a misprint in there catalog it's the same price but it has less travel. I called fulton and they were real nice people to deal with.I have a 22 hunter and I bought a 8 hp honda xls and it weights 101 Ils.I put 2 pieces of oak about 30 inches by 4 inches on the inside and glassed it in. Under the mounting bracket I put a poly mounting plate page 713 west marine catalog. No flex and plenty of torque love it.happy sailing George s/v Tangerine
