I have a 1988 c-30 which I just purchased 3 months ago,I've found one of the motor mount bolts laying in the engine compartment and it appears to be a lag bolt that has stripped out. what I would like to know is the stringer solid glass or glass over wood and which would be the best way too fix it. I did not see any wood just loose crumbled glass. what's the procedure guys.

Hopefully someone with a c30 will answer, but I know that on a c27 it's glass over wood. I would bet it's the same for you. I think your best fix would be to enlarge/drill out the hole, fill with epoxy with filler, let set, and then redrill for the lag bolt. If possible, you might consider using a longer lag bolt also. First Try This

Wayne Just try a longer lag bolt first. The difficulty with doing Peter's first step is where do you get the room to do that? Then, if necessary, use Peter's second cure. Stu

You are fortunate that you bought a Catalina. Few manufacturers of that vintage are still in business. Catalina is. Why not go the horse directly. Catalina Yachts 21200 Victory Blvd Woodland HillsCA91367-2582818-884-7700 Ask for the parts department and you'll get a knowledgable and courteous rep who will spend as much time with you as is necessary. Having your hull number ready is a big help. A few weeks ago, I had an engine exhaust manifold problem on my '78 C30. They were able to come up with the original paper work on the boat and even faxed me an engineering drawing of the part they thought I was describing for me to compare with the damaged part. I've gone to them five or six times over the years and they've saved my bacon every time.

I assume you mean the hole that is in the glassed over wooden bed is stripped and not the bolt itself. If so remove the bolt and add pieces of wood inside the hole to build it up so the bolt will take. If it is not too bad wooden toothpicks will work. I would be cautious about using a longer bolt. How is your engine vibration/alignment?
