I have a 4 stoke 9.9 Mercury mounted on a 2 stoke lifting bracket. The weight of the 4 stoke overpowers the bracket and therefor it is very difficult to lift and lower the motor. I searched the web for pics of the two types of brackets and the 4 stroke basically have double the arms and springs. I also discovered that the 2 stoke brackets are rated by motor weight. If I have an 80lb 4 stoke, shouldn't a 2 stoke bracket rated for 80lbs lift it? In therory, if I upgrade my springs to a set rated for an 80lb 2 stoke, should that not solve my problem? If my logic is good, where would I find springs to upgrade my weight capabilities for my existing bracket?
I have tried numerous bracket manufactures and its like talking to a wall. They simply state that they do not sell springs. End of story. They will not divulge who supplies their springs. Has anyone had spring issues, I would appreciate some direction.
Thanks,
Shanker
