Deck Plate
Bob, On my boat there's probably about 4 inches of room between the inner and outer transom. I would go with a 6" deck plate and if you can't get at the bolts, install another one in fuel compartment. You may not be able to get a ratchet with a deep socket in there to take off the nuts, but you can get a box or open end wrench in there with no problem. You can get an idea about how much room that you have by observing the Port side where the hatch is. I can see though, where this can be a problem. We mounted a swim ladder on Walter's 192 and had the advantage of using the hatch opening and the deck plate opening to get at the bolts and install the plywood back-up plate. I really don't know what to tell you on this. If you install a deck plate in the fuel compartment, it is going to have to be located in a place where you can be able to swing a wrench. I've never tried to reach the nuts on the transom bracket on my boat from my deck plate, but I will give it a try the next time I'm on my boat, which will probably be Tuesday. Usually, when I sail on Tuesday, I go for an overnighter and come back late the next day. I'll check it out and get back to you on it, but our boats differ in size and I'm not sure what the clearances are on these boats. Good luck!Joe
