Just purcased a motor bracket replacement for an O Day 19.2. My old bracket is bolted thru a wedge and then thru the transom. Unless i am missing something there is no way to reach the bolts to disassemble. My ribs still ache from when i had to replace the drain hose last year. Any suggestions???

Thanks

Joe thanks for the info. Here is my challenge. The existing mount is located on the starboard side basically behind th eseat in the cockpit.Where you cut yours in would not get me near my bracket. It is tempting to cut through the seat compartment from either outside or inside where the gas tank is. I do not know what is behind the wall. I am concerned that if i cut as close to the starboard side of the transom leaving enough room for the flange of the 4" deckplate i purchased i will have problems reaching the bolts as well. Do you recall how much space there is between the inside and outside of the transome? Agian thanks for your help.

Deck Plate

Bob, On my boat there's probably about 4 inches of room between the inner and outer transom. I would go with a 6" deck plate and if you can't get at the bolts, install another one in fuel compartment. You may not be able to get a ratchet with a deep socket in there to take off the nuts, but you can get a box or open end wrench in there with no problem. You can get an idea about how much room that you have by observing the Port side where the hatch is. I can see though, where this can be a problem. We mounted a swim ladder on Walter's 192 and had the advantage of using the hatch opening and the deck plate opening to get at the bolts and install the plywood back-up plate. I really don't know what to tell you on this. If you install a deck plate in the fuel compartment, it is going to have to be located in a place where you can be able to swing a wrench. I've never tried to reach the nuts on the transom bracket on my boat from my deck plate, but I will give it a try the next time I'm on my boat, which will probably be Tuesday. Usually, when I sail on Tuesday, I go for an overnighter and come back late the next day. I'll check it out and get back to you on it, but our boats differ in size and I'm not sure what the clearances are on these boats. Good luck! Joe

OUTBOARD BRACKET

I just made the change to the new outboard bracket over the winte on a 222. I went through the Gas tank locker. There was airspace between the locker nd the Transom. As joe suggested use a 6" inspection port. If it is like the 222 you will find four 5/16 bolts coming through the transom at this location. Ith is not that hard to get the bolts out with the inspection port. In my case I replaced the wedge also and upgraded to the Garlick 7091 which was wider than the current bracket so what I did was use the four holes that are there and drilled two more using the bracket as the template. If you have any questions I will try to answer them. Good Luck it not to bad.
