Anyone considered or have come up with a wirless motion dector that could be mounted in the cockoit or on a bimini or dodger brace?? The reason i'm asking over the past 3 yr's we have been boarded twice late at night, both times visiting other marina's. 1st time two drunks decided to sit in the cockpit drink beer and smoke a cigarette, their conversation awoke me and I blasted a small air horn, scared the wife  more than the drunks, heard about that for the next two days.
2nd time was boarded by 4 teenagers in Ocracoke this time I warned the wife, and the kids scattered and rode off on their bicycles.

Given your two experiences, it was good you were on the boat.

I've read all sorts of gimmicks about intrusion alarms, wired and wireless. They're out there, try a Google search.

If it was me, I'd just buy some thumbtacks. Like Joshua Slocum. Worked for him! :)

Might be easier to hook up a motion detector light.

Remarkable, the temerity of some folks. Yep, the Slocum defense. Cheap, non-lethal, but may cause unwarranted retribution...

Get a dog. Purina DogChow is cheaper than batteries.

I carry onboard a Shillelagh (blackthorn bata), & nuclear pepperspray. Am considering a taser.

We have used units we bought at HD for years. But don't use motion detectors. Be sure they are infared, and detect body heat not motion. Every time the boat moves the detectors will go off. With the infared, we did have a problem with them going off every morning when the sun comes up. Maybe a placement issue, but it did work for us. Here are some examples, http://www.seacuritysystems.com/Active_Motion_Detectors.htm . Chuck

Harbor Freight sells a solar led motion detector light for less than $20. Radio shack has small battery operated intrusion alarms too.

tv camera

Pep Boys has a small back up camera, in color that mounts on the license plate. after some alterations I managed to conceal it in the dodger so it'll show who or what is in the cockpit at nite. Seeing whats out there dictates the course of action to be taken. It works great and the recieving monitor is mounted in the v berth so we can see everything with out having to get out of bed.

Yeah, but the problem with that is that our dogs have to sleep on the bed with us. They probably wouldn't wake up until after I did!

I like the camera idea but would put a small monitor screen outside in the cockpit so folks know they are on camera. With wireless internet and streaming these days people know they can be watched live. I think that would spook all but the most drunk.

Someone remind me what I pay you people for. Throw me a frickin bone here.

Luckily we don't have to deal with that a lot here except when our dock neighbors are messing with us (we actually tried to move a guy to another dock while he was asleep) but our marina is pretty secure and we are at the very end of the dock. I am more concerned when we are at a different marina.

An audible alarm with motion detector sounds like a good idea, especially when you're onboard. The noise may be enough to scare someone away, especially of they're only there for a place to hang-out. Make sure if you exit your boat with any kind of "weapon" (shillelagh, pepper spray) you have a backup plan if they don't work or if you're outnumbered. A quick assessment and plan of attack are very important when confronting people, whether they're just drunks or criminals, in order to keep yourself safe.

Could be as simple as a fishing line wrapped across the cockpit connected to a warning device... tin can? car alarm? light switch?

Sounds like great fun, but you might find yourself on trial for manslaughter. At the least you could expect some vandalism in retaliation.
