I am looking to purchase a 1991 M38 in Florida. upon taking some photos i saw some corrosion on the steel rod which holds the shrouds. the rod is located in the cabin cabinet area.

does anyone know of this being a critical issue? or would it be surface rust? Is it repairable without much work on the fiberglass.

any insight is helpful and thanks,

The rod you are talking about is part of your chain plates. It is very critical and you should have it inspected by someone who knows what to look for , a rigger or surveyor. If there has been leaking at the deck it could cause pit or crevice corrosion. Also leaking at the deck could cause problems with the deck core. Or it could be nothing, you just have to have it carefully inspected by someone who knows what to look for. But not something you want to ignore. I would think if it needs replacement it would not be a big deal they are usually easy to access and the parts can be had from Beneteau.
