Mooring

I am trying to determine the best way to attach my recently acquired ‘88 C22 to a mooring. There is no chock through which to guide the mooring line to one of the two bow deck cleats. I am concerned about chaffing as well as a secure connection. I have been assuming that the bow eyelet used for connecting to the trailer winch is not intended for mooring, but I have no evidence of that. I would be most grateful for any suggestions. The boat is moored in Maine’s Moosehead lake, which while not the ocean, can produce some reasonable (2-3 ft) seas. Thanks!

Have moored my c-22 for last 8 years close to busy channel. use both the eyebolt and the deck cleats. Attach rope from deck cleat to mooring, and with second longer line (safety line) attach rope from eyebolt to mooring. you will experience chaffing, but if first line breaks second line will hold in place until repair can be made. in 8 years, i had the line break once (1st year), and the second line did the job until I could gat a new line. I do end up replacing both lines just about every year, but the mooring is free.

our entire club is on moorings- on the Hudson River- tides,wakes etc. we use a double line system, and if you cross-over the lines, each line will act to help lock the line on the cleat. No chafing against each other.

Mooring a C-22

My C-22 is moored on the Delaware River next to a commercial channel, and where no power boat slows for anything: I've seen their wakes nearly throw a 27' Watkins on to our dock.We have had a hurricane (1999). Not the best of conditions. I just loop my 2 mooring lines over each other,on the bow cleats, the holes in the lines are long enough, and have never had one come off the cleat. I replace my mooring lines yearly. The mooring has picked up and moved my boat downriver, but the mooring lines stayed. There is no chafing damage. The thing to watch for is that the cleats themselves will work loose eventually, so you must check on them before launch in the spring. You should have no trouble. There are 5 C-22's moored in our fleet, all with no porblems. You're 22 will be fine.
