I recently put my newly acquired 1997 Macgregor onto my mooring and man, what a ride I got I couldn't beleive how much this thing sways back and forth. I felt like I was water skiing. I tried filling the ballast tanks and dropping the center board but nothing seemed to help. Any suggestions?

Check TSBB Mac-Venture Forum Archives

It's a known issue. You've got a light-weight and high-windage boat. Lots of suggestions in the archives from the link. Just as an immediate concern: I hope you're NOT mooring from the trailer-eye (alone) on the front of the boat. It reportedly will fail from the side to side strain. You need to be moored from a harness from your deck cleats. Check the archives for suggestions from others that have moorings (I don't). Best wishes!

Nope

Have the same problem with a V-222, tacking at anchor so much it worries the anchor loose. Even tried mooring stern-to like the Bay-built workboats do with the high bows. Haven't really solved that one yet.

Me Too

I have had a '97 26X for 2 years now. It does the same thing. I've tried leaving the center board down and leaving the rudders down. No help. I do not want to leave these parts in the water anyway since they would tend to grow slime and barnicles. I just live with it.

Welcome

It's a fact to deal with about the Mac........I use an aft anchor with an Anchor Buddy........big stretchy line............I'm gonna also try Rocker Stoppers to maybe cut back on the swaying around along with rocking of course.
