Mooring vs Slip

I currently have a slip on the Miami River. Dosen't cost a lot, but takes an hour to get to the ocean. A friend at work has a mooring in the keys he's not using and I can use it for free till he needs it again. Weather wise, how safe is it to use a mooring in the keys.

Where is the mooring

and who wass it built by. In KW on the east side of Fleming Key, there is a city owned mooring field that should be secure. there are also a number of private moorings in KW harbor. I'm moving my 42 to the Bahamas for the months of May and June, actually May 2 to July 7. I own my slip in Marathon and wouldn't mind renting it out while I'm gone.
