Hunter 25 -
# 1 question;I want to ask what are the do's and don't of mooring my 1993 Hunter 23.5 water ballasted boat to my close friends boat slip?
Draft is 14" up and 5'6" down.
It fits nice "inside slip", under nice over head metal roof cover with mast down.
In the summer, after mid March, I want to keep it most of the summer out of the slip. With the mast stepped and ready to walk on board and go. I believe the port side of dock would be best for prevailing winds, with / using 8" cleats in wood deck.

My shroads rub on roof. This meatl overhang is about 18 inches .Both sides are the same ,when trying to moor on either outside edge of dock/slip......
question #2...So I need suggestions for building a "stand off board" to hold boat off deck to keep shroads from rubbing. Or some other, hopefully not to spendy, device....;)
Any suggestions?
Thank you guys.....it great knowing we have some of the very best knowledgeable sailors anywhere.

Boatless ! 26 Ottawa, Ontario
I had this problem once and I used a Fortress anchor with a 10 llb weight on the chain. I set the anchor so the boat could never touch the dock, the 10 weight was always off the bottom, so it would pull the boat off the dock. I had a couple of lines from the boat to the dock, these were kept snug by the weight on the anchor line. The boat was about 5 ft away from the dock. When we wanted to board the boat I just hauled in on the lines and the boat would come about 18" of the dock so you could just step on. The boat could never touch the dock but was easy to step on or off. I don't know if you have room to do something like this or what the holding is like in this area. I was only there for a week so did not want to get into anything expensive. They do make fibreglass whips that mount on a dock to keep a boat off the dock, but I think they are in the $400 range.
good luck, Bob
