I MOOR TO A MOORING BOUY. WHERE THE 26X HAS NO CHOCKS THE BOW GETS CHAFED AND THE MOORING LINE IS WEARING THROUGH THE GEL COAT. IS THE U BOLT ON THE NOSE STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD THE BOAT AT A MOORING?
Given the 26X's penchant for "sailing around the anchor" (or, in this case, mooring), the lateral stresses placed on the bow eye will eventually cause it to weaken the surrounding glass and break. I've seen a number of reports of this happening while using the bow eye for mooring. Don't do it.The bow eye is apparently designed for doing only two things: Hauling the boat onto the trailer, and keeping it there.-- - Jeff
