Good morning one and all. Returning to the water and need some help.

My 290 is far away but I need help with the mooring line size. I recall the cleats aren't that big and have traditionally used 1/2" line for tying up. Wondered if anyone with a 290 used anything bigger than 1/2", especially for mooring. Have purchased two 1/2" mooring pendants, and know the cleats won't handle 3/4", but wondering if I should have purchased 5/8"?

Any help appreciated.

Mooring pennants

I have a 1986 28.5, presumably with similar sized deck cleats and had a similar question when I used a mooring a couple seasons back.
I elected to use two parallel 5/8" pennants; however I also added 3/4" ID reinforced plastic water hose over each line where it crossed over the edge of the deck to prevent chaffing.

Had a 26 on a mooring many years ago. Likely the 1/2" is sufficient. Maybe you could double up somehow in storm season. Chaffing is a problem cover all points and check them each time you are on the boat.
