I am about to become a 26 owner, but noticed from the pictures that there seems to be little opportunity for running a bow mooring line or anchor over the bow due to roller furling, etc. I moor my boat in 6ft of water off my house at a buoy on an anchor. I could use the fitting on the stem that is used to haul boat onto the trailer - but Im not sure if it would be strong enough when there is a gale blowing through the Lake in the Spring. Would welcome the opportunity to hear what others have done.

I moor my H23 to a buoy in Lake Wallenpaupack, and use the bow eye. It is a bit inconvenient to reach when I unhook and rehook the mooring pennant, but it seems to be strong enough. Mine does have a metal plate (strip) on the inside as a backing plate - something that seems advisable. Hurr Irene came through here a month ago, and we had maybe 30-40 mph winds. It did survive that.

thank you. I will check for a backing plate. I fitted such an eye with backing plate - on my Bayfield 29 for this purpose only and it worked!

Dual mooring

I use the bow eye with a rather strong line and I attach a second longer line to the cleat on the bow. Double protection. The marina crew watched my Hunter 26 lift the 1000 pound weight and settle back several feet when we had some high winds on the lake. They said I could have a 1500 pound mooring next year.

Be aware that the bow eye may not be as strong as you hope unless you reinforce it. Here's what I found behind mine!! An aluminum backing scrap wallowed out terribly by the factory installer and nearly pulled through. I placed a much more rigid and substantial backing piece in it's place in under 45mins.

All the SS bolts for your cleats and bow rails are threaded into aluminum backing plates so tread lightly unless you find comfort in what amounts to aluminum nuts holding your pride and joy. Here's a pic of the single bow rail/ head stay bolt that was stripped and barely intact for our boat(another easy fix is just to bolt it straight through).

Glad your boat came through Irene unscathed. Mike

Mine doesn't have a pipe, but it does have a reasonably robust stainless metal strip, with nuts and washers on the threaded eye shafts, and nuts on the outer side (with another smaller metal strip on the outside of the bow).
