the anchor. We were there for Mother's Day. I have been there several times before and have never seen anyone anchored in this beautiful cove. I looks really well protected in a beautiful setting. I have taken my kayaks out of there with an easily access and egress. Has anyone ever stayed there? Laguna beach proper also looks like a great destination spot. Probably easier to get to by boat than by car too! Traffic was backed up to the 73 toll road.

Montage anchoring

Hello, I grew up in Laguna during the 50's and 60's and have dived this area extensively, as my parents house lay just north of Blue Lagoon and what was Treasure Island, before the area became the Montage. The bottom conditions adjacent to Goff Island (big rock) to the east are areas of rock and sand with numerous small reefs. Depending on the swell condition, it can be very bumpy in the cove. The only safe place to anchor would be a hundred yards off the beach, water depth about 35 to 40 feet, but I would not recommend it for overnight. I have done a few drive-bys into the inner cove as I know the small reef locations, some of which are less than 5-6 feet below the surface. The area towards Aliso Beach is predominately sand bottom with large reefs that are easily spotted. Again very exposed and bumpy. The area off Blue Lagoon is sand with a few reefs, especially off the north end of the seawall, out about 100 yards. Bottom line...it's not a great place to drop the hook.
