Moldy teak in the cabin

This winter, as I have done each of the last 6 winters that I have owned my Catalina 30, I shrink wrapped the boat. When it was returned to the slip this spring I eagerly went to it hoping to clean it for the summer when I discovered that most of the teak in the cabin was covered with mold. The marina indicated that it just "happens" due to wet weather, is that possible when I took the same precautions I used every year in the past. Also how can I prevent this in the future.

Humidity bad!!

What about a solar fan, or maybe putting a few vents in the plastic. I had a similar problem with my 25, and I wound up just leaving it "cracked open" for a couple of days, then cleaned with bleach. The air really helped. I think it is like a dank, dark basement...no telling what will grow there.

You could put in one or two of those Dri-Z-Aire dessicant things. I keep one in our boat year round. Works great even here in rainy Oregon.

How 'bout this?

You could also put a couple bags of charcoal in the cabin...it makes an excellent dessicant, is readily available and relatively cheap.
