I have two partners for our 27' Catalina. We have a small amount of mold on the Jenny. I contend it should be taken off immediately before winter, but the partner who is assigned to do it wants to wait until next Spring, due to the weather we have here now. We can certainly find SOME place to clean and dry it. It is a relatively new sail, a 155 Genoa, on a furling system. Who's correct? Thanx.

Jim, Mold & mildew are topical at first, but, over time, will work their way into the fibers of even the newest dacron & poyester sail cloth materials. If you clean it now with a light bleach solution, let it dry, flake it & store it in a warm, dry environment the sail will look like new next year. If you wait until after the winter's over, then the stains will probably set in permanently. You probably spent a pretty penny on new sails...take care of them. I have used it STRAIGHT, undiluted on sails for over 20 years and never had a problem. Your sails are probably dacron polyester so like, most sheets and halyards you can't hurt them. You'll want to rinse of course, but that's no biggy either, if you don't need the smell to clear up right away. A little fresh water will do the trick.
