Mold on grey wall covering ???

I just purchases a 1987 Hunter and noticed what appearsto be mold on the grey liner fore and aft. Can it be cleanedand if not can it be replaced? How much effort to get the oldliner off and where is the liner purchased from ?Thanks Stewart.

Stewart:This issue has been discussed in length. You should look this up in the archives. (use fuzzy, carpet, etc to search).What I remember is that many have cleaned it with X-14 or bleach water. This will kill any live mold and then you can deal with getting the black spot off. One of the little upolstery cleaning machines or other carpet they cleaning products should help. Be sure to test a couple of spots before you do the dead.There are also several posts regarding replacement of the fabric. You need to get the old stuff off and then you can use the 3M spray adhesive to apply the new material.Good luck

commercial cleaner

I had Stanley Steemer come out and clean mine. Of course they need access to water and electricity to do it, but it came out great. I would definitely try cleaning before replacing, that would be a major job.

replaced mine

had the same problem, i removed the grey carpet, did lots of sanding to remove the glue and carpet residue, then painted white the entire area with 4 coats of epoxy paint. it really brighten up the entire cabin and now don't have much mildew. it took about three weekends to finish

cleaned mine with...

with a carpet cleaner and a shopvac. Looks new. I prefer to keep the cloth for insulation purposes. Easy to lean against or touch in the summer or winter.

x-14

We had heard that x-14 was taken off the market because it was not ecologically friendly. In other words, it worked at treating mildew. We have used it, and bought up a dozen or so bottles when we heard this story. Can anyone comment. We appreciate the carpet cleaner idea. It is logical, so naturally, being nautical, we only thought of marine products.
