mounting fire extinguisher

I need to mount a fire extinguisher on my '19. Am thinking of mounting on the bulkhead just inside of the companionway where it can be reached from either the cockpit or the cabin. I presume that to support the weight without damaging the fiberglass it would be best to place a wooden plate on each side, making a sandwich, and through-bolting, rather than simply screwing into the fiberglass. Any comments?

That's a good location. Mine is on the cabin bulkhead and it's not the best location as a single on board extinguisher because it requires a person to go deeper into the cabin to get it, which is not so great. However, I located it there because the companionway bulkhead on my boat is very close to the stove, where fires are most likely to occur in the cabin. I'd rather have the extinguisher in a place where a potential stove fire will not keep me from getting to it.

I have wondered the same thing about the fiberglass bulk head, and have assumed all along that it probably would be all right to support the weight of a small extinguisher with wood screws.
