Modifying Fortress Anchor to fit anchor locker

My 19' boat has an anchor locker at the bow designed to stow an anchor by hanging it from the horizontal rod of the anchor (using small cradle arms on each side). I bought the appropriate sized Fortress anchor for my boat size/weight but the horizontal rod of the anchor is too wide by several inches to fit in the cradle. How much would it effect the anchor's function if I were to shorten this rod? My primary application would be to set the anchor for short periods on day trips on inland lakes or maybe Pueget Sound and also for emergency purposes if I were to have an engine problem.Thanks!Jerry

Jerry, we do not recommend cutting this narrow round rod, called the "stock", because it is the "landing gear" for the anchor. The stock helps to balance the anchor once it reaches the sea bottom, and the shorter the stock, the more the anchor may flop along from side to side as it tries to dig in and set.Also, once the anchor is set, the stock also helps to stablilize the anchor and keep it in place if there is a current or wind shift.Sorry!

Modify the Locker

Might it be possible to move the hangers in the locker? Their function is to hold the anchor while the anchors function is to hold the boat.

Thanks Brian and Tim. I guess I'll have to live with it. Unfortunately I can't modify the anchor hangars since they're on the side walls meaning the locker just isn't wide enough for the stock.
