Has anyone tried to modify a table on a 40.5 to make easier access to seats Understanding that this could negate the double berth feature

We've been wanting to do it for years. Thought about having it cut down and putting a new laminate on top.

Most of time, we have it swung back against the forward part of the port settee.

We had ours cut down, no new material, just used what was there but it is almost half the size it was. We love it, have never missed the additional size. Great access now to all the lockers, and in and out of the settee is easy. Kept the hinged flap, but it is shorter as well. We have no desire to have added people sleeping there so for us it works

Do you have a picture of the cut down table?

Jim, I am looking at a 356 in which the wooden column to which the table mounts has been removed (and cannot be located), though the table top has been located; Do you think it is sensible to build the column or better to have a metal "bracket" contructed that slides on the mast compression post, carrying the table top?

Table ideas

On my 40.5, I really liked the table size, but had 2 things that drove me nuts.
First of all, you have to really horse on the T screw to tighten the collar enough so that the table won't rotate when somebody knocks it when walking past.
Here's what I did.
You know the desired height when the table isn't being lowered into bed position.
So, when it was at desired height, I drilled a 3/8" hole through the collar & compression post.
I then had a stainless 3/8" pin which was inserted into the hole.
Next thing
The table tended to droop at the end furthest from the compression post.
I installed a removable leg, which fit into a socket under the table.
To install it was easy.
You raised the table 2" above the normal up height.
Install the post,
Then lower the table, and install anti-rotation locking pin.
The table was now very rigid, plus wouldn't rotate at all
