As promised we tested the new Kilian propeller on our 430 for the last two weeks. I gota say I'm very pleased. The boat now stops on a dime with very little reverse throtle, and accelerates very well, The modification eliminated almost all the prop walk. The only way I could get any noticable prop walk was to go to 2500 rpms very quickly in reverse with the boat stopped. Other than that it was hardly noticable. The 3 blade also added 1 knot at 3000 rpms over the old two blade. (From 7 to 8) We went from a 2 blade 18 15 to a 3 blade 18 10. I posted some pictures on the photo forum for those interested. I definately feel the prop was worth the expense. Dick McKee S/V Constellation

Wow!

Great photos, Dick, thanks for going to the trouble to shoot them so well! We're working with Killian to have them do some writing for the site. I'm curious about the 'wings' on the prop and how they function. reducing prop walk and increasing speed without more horsepower should be of intertest to everyone!

Kilian actually calls the tip the..

Non-Slip Tip. I think the wings act as a scoop in the water. When I thought about it the right hand prop is trying to walk to the left, the wings are pulling through the water to the right. It appears, if the wings are the correct size ect, the two forces act to off set each other..

Stephen I forgot something...

On the way home from work today the light went off that, accoding to Tim Kilian, the transmission model and final drive ratio are just as important as the engine model in selecting the correct prop. Ours is a model KM4A with a final drive ratio of 2.63..
