This may seem like a really weird issue, but.... For a long time I would never have invested money in this project, but I may have the opportunity to pick up a FREE '70s MacGregor Venture 21 (or it's a 222-- I think it's a pop-top). I would like to know if anyone has ever considered or actually done a modification replacing the steel centreboard with a fixed keel. I know Ventures are pretty quick even whilst dragging the centerboard cable (and all the attendant seaweed) but a very sweet little hi-tech butterknife blade, maybe with a little bulb on the end if it needs it, about 4 ft deep, would be SO COOL. From a design standpoint it'd be a real screamer (yes, I am fond of steering with a hiking stick!). From a utility or performance standpoint-- well, I'd like to hear intelligent comments. I don't care about draught limitations for cruising but rather in somehow getting the thing rated PHRF (I guess as an 'experimental' or one-off??). Anyone who's had experience souping up Ventures is welcome to EMail me or post here. Looking forward to hearing rational ideas. J Cherubini II Cherubini Art & Nautical Design Org. Try www.trailorsailor.com

Hi John, I think that you will get a much bigger responce on the Mac/Venture section of the trailersailor board. There are a lot of people there that have messed with those boats for a long time. I can find the exact address if you can't get it from a little search. Good Luck, Joe C. in NC PS. I think that the boat would sail pretty fast.

Thanks-- been there!!!

Phil, Joe-- thanks. I have tried both and have posed the same question there too. Sorry if this seems out of place here but I am not a MacGregor sailor either, and I'M interested in this project. Maybe someone else is/has been too. JC
