We have our boat at Dog River on Mobile bay. Mobile Bay is great!!! It gets pretty rough but we can usually beam reach several miles. But there isn't anywhere to go to for an overnight at anchor that I know about. Dauphin island might work unless there is a north wind. My question is where is the best Marina/bay between Mobile and Panama city?? We live in Birmingham and it is about the same distance anywhere along this stretch of coast. I know Dan of Navarre will say Navarre. It is a great place with easy access to Pensacola or Choctawhatchee bays. Any other favorites??? If so how much is a slip per month and contact information. Dan sure steered me right about anchoring at Fort McCree. My only problem with Navarre is it's distance from the open gulf. thanks Tom

LOL @ Tom

I wouldnt be prejudice! ;) but, I have been shopping around for the winter. the best deal Ive found that serves your needs are Pensacola Marine Complex. monthly $7.25 per ft add $25 mo for power and cable. $12 mo admin fee which includes water, pumpouts, washer/dryer and trash. contact Chip MacMillan 850-202-0170. this marina is a 45 min run to Pensacola Pass and of course the cove at Ft McCree. it is also just 10 mins to the downtown nite life but, Im sure that of no interest to ya! LOL

Back Over Here Tom

Two Places in Niceville Guisepi's Warf and the Lighthouse Marina. Guisepi's is $4.00 a foot Lighthouse is $4.50 or $5.50 I think. Both are pretty close to each other at the top of Boggy Bayou. Further east I hear there are places in Freeport that are affordable but it is a bit of a treck out to the bay and a helluva long way to the gulf. If I can help further let me know. Rick

Wow ! prices, I'm staying on the Chesapeake

2.40/ft/ month or $85/month with electric showers pumpout and will let you run naked around the docks - helps with the birds.... Hey guys will be in Pensacola and Destin over Thanksgiving, Going to the Boarding House for turkey with the folks. Won't be there long enough to sail. bummer *cry *cry Jim S/V Java

You can sail year around here! Just wear gloves!

Yes Hopkins Boarding House, been eating there far back as I can remember. Dad and I usually sit at the big table and drive the tourist crazy asking them to pass stuff. BTW, it is 70 degs here right now and the winds are SSE at 16kts. Jim S/V Java

Jim Tell me more about the Chesapeak

We have talked about coming that way. I'd heard that it was expensive. We love the outer banks and have rented a sailboat for daysailing at Hampton Roads. Actually my first trip to the beach was Virginia Beach!!!! My first crab was from the Chesapeak.

Tom, Chesapeake a great place

The Chesapeake Bay is approx 250 miles long and varys in width from 20-30 miles to 3-5, just depends on where you are. Sailing varys up and down the bay with rivers and gunkholes everywhere! I now keep my boat on the Potomac River about 25nm from the bay, river is huge in this area(see attached picture of my marina). Prices vary but mostly higher in populated areas like Annapolis and Norfolk. You could spend an entire summer trying to visit the major sites and probably a life time exploring the bay. The bay can be smooth as glass and tomorrow 30kts and 6ft seas. Done both and have the scars to prove it. Joan and I were thinking of retiring to the south but enjoy the bay so much that we are going to stay here. Weather varys depending on what time of day it is ;D. Last winter we got hammered with lots of snow. This year they are calling for cold and not so munch snow. We'll see. There is lots of information about the bay on the web and do it more justice than I can. Personaly I believe is one of the greatest bodies of water around. Jim S/V Java

looks great thanks

We plan to visit and may possibly end up living up there. But I must say that warm feels good. The battle plan is to cruise and then buy property somewhere that we like and can afford. The afford part is most critical!!!
