I've just posted a Wanted Ad for a Capri 22 and think I know what I want. After having read all the material/posts, I could find on the comparisons between the MK 1 vs MK 2, I still would appreciate more input! I like the look of the Wood Trim on the Mk 1, and was wondering if anyone has retrofitted Wood Trim on a MK 2. I realize there are some other small differences between these two models, but my main concern is performance! If I understand correctly there is hardly any measurable change even though they have difference Hulls. All comments are welcomed. From what I've seen performance is pretty consistent mk1 vs mkII. Wing and Fin perform a bit differently but that's no different than any design with both keels. Tall vs standard rig is dependent on wind. I have a tall rig because we tend to have light wind in the summer. Breaker panel location is better in mkII, access to v-berth is better in mk1. Either one is a good choice.
MK1 boats are faster because their skippers have had more practice, are older/wiser, have learned what works, etc. MK2 might be faster due to newer sails, but a MK1 with new sails - watch out!
I want to replace the wood trim on my MK1 to reduce the maintenance!

But it has the single compression post that blocks quick access to the portable head.
The electrical switch location is high and readily accessible.
There are THREE keel versions: FIN, WING, and SHOAL. The shoal keel is rare and only MK1 I believe.
But in reality, either version is good. Go with price, condition, and availability.

Go with the Sikkens Cetol Marine on the teak. I've been recoating the teak every season with Helmsman since it seemed like less maintenance then oiling it every month or two. I tried the Sikkens product this April, and it looks just as good today. I'll at least get two seasons, hopefully more.JEPomer said:

It's not that I don't like wood or the look, I just don't want to deal with the maintenance for superficial trim.
My previous '04 Jeep came with "tubular side rails". These "looked" like they should protect the sides from rock damage when off-roading, but they were so thin, they dented quickly. Besides, they got in the way when entering or exiting the vehicle. I took them off after a few weeks. It is amazing how much they sell for!
