Mixing Electronics Manufactures

My 2006 Hunter 38 came with Raymarine instruments. I am considering buying the new Garmin GPSMAP 743xsv multi-function display (MFD) in order to get Garmin’s forward-looking sonar (can you imagine seeing that shallow spot coming at you well in advance?). My question is whether anyone has had success mixing two manufactures? Garmin says they can’t guarantee that all functions of the Raymarine instruments will operate properly on their MFD. Has anyone been successful mixing two manufactures?

I have a Ray Marine Ev100 autopilot, Garmin wind, depth and MFD, and Simrad Vhf with AIS receiver. They all work well together via a N2K network. For what it’s worth.

" We can't guarantee...." so why don't you replace everything and increase our bottom line......

I do not have experience with mixing two electronic manufacturers. My boat has a Raymarine navigation display (E120) and Raymarine DSM300 digital sounder that does exactly what you want to do.

I have a Garmin 74 connected to Ray ST60 instruments and an ST4000 AP using Seatalk to Seatalk ng converter and Seatalk ng to Nema 2000 adapter cable. Everything plays nicely together and communicates all data to the Garmin. You can't control the AP thru the MFD but it does set waypoints to "steer to" for it. Radar usually has to be by manufacturer.

How far in advance does the forward looking sonar show? Just wondering.
