I need to move my Hunter40 in a hurry, I have the next few days while I'm in town. I sold it to a person, the deal fell through and I've been forced to re-pocess the boats (I've spoken to an attorney, this is what he's instructed me to do).. Problem is, I guest the mixing elbow was leaking exhaust and the buyer disassembled it without having replacement parts... so now the boat is not operable. I'll talk to the local yanmar dealer monday, but is there a way to engineer this to get me a few miles to a yard? I'll be on deck and not down below, but I still have the water exhaust to address.

Nasty, Nasty, Problem ........................

.................. but as long as you play it safe (as you've stated), yes it MAY be possible to move the boat without having sea water all over the place. BUT ONLY AS A LAST RESORT. Having the boat towed would really be my first choice. If you're trying to do this quickly, for a fast get away in the middle of the night, not a good idea at all.

I'll assume the old mixing elbow and attachments are still available on the boat. If not, only your Yanmar dealer can help you.

The mixing elbow will run quite cool so there are a number of possible ways to seal the offending leak. The catch here is the location and size of the hole. Hose clamp with a rubber patch over the hole, FRP resin over the hole and hose clamp backup, C clamp holding a patch in place are a few maybe's that come to mind.

It can be done but if it doesn't hold, things could get real messy, real fast.

BTW ..................... you sure you're not just hot wiring this boat for a Saturday night joy ride :naughty: ?

Ralph, I've changed the locks to the cabin, but I have a feeling getting the ignition key will be a challenge.... so that joke might not be far from the truth. :D
