Gordon, Earlier you answered my post on our exhaust noise changing from earlier years. You suggested that the mixing elbow needed to be looked at. We have a 1994 3JH2E Yanmar (purchased new). Should I attempt to clean the elbow myself? Is the elbow difficult to replace (I am fairly handy)? Do you stock this part and how much does it cost? Thanks for all your great insight on this forum, I've enjoyed sharing in your wisdom. Tom

mixing elbow

We do stock the mixing elbow for your 3JH2E The price tag is $282.48. A $10.14 gasket would also be required. Quite often the cure is just cleaning the existing elbow. If it is not burned through, you might have the problem solved. As far as doing it yourself, you would have to define "fairly" (I don't want to appear as if I am running for public office). The job is rather straight forward and can often be done without removing the elbow. Take the hoses off and poke around.

They quoted me about $80. It is not difficult at all. Pull the hose off first - then the bolts. If you are careful you can save the gasket.
