Misterious Combi

Hi all went out on my Vega today only to find that when I
slipped the mooring the engine would only stay in reverse.  Or to be technical would only run backwards
regardless of the position in which I placed the lever.  I have an MD7A for an engine.  So far I have opened up the cockpit floor hatch
to check the linkage and it all seems fine.
I am consequently led to assume that perhaps the blades of the prop are
stuck in the “backwards” position.  Has
anyone had this experience or does anyone know what I should be looking at.  Thanks John

There is a couple things that could be happening, but bottom line it sounds like combi rebuild time. For some reason the control tub is not engaging. It could be a worn control tub, it could be a loose friction washer, or it might be a internal gear mechanism. I ordered by combi rebuild kit from Steve at www.albinvega.co.uk. It comes with good instructions, and it took me a good day to do the work. I'm told a good mechanic can do it in a couple hours.Even with my amateur skills it went fine with a lot of double and triple checking, and two years later is still holding together You'll need to do a haul out though.Bob FuchsSilentium

it sounds like combi rebuild time.

For some reason the control tub is not engaging. It could be a worn control
tub, it could be a loose friction washer, or it might be a internal gear
mechanism.

You'll need to do a haul out
though.

Installing a new Beta14 and I have some good questions. 1. What is her moment to change trim ? How heavy was my MD7A? Has anyone ever installed large fuel tanks to increase her range?

MD7A is about 200kg, Beta is about 100kg.
