Went for a sail this morning in the pouring rain and of course faced the prospect of trying to dry the sails afterwards. And then it dawned on me. Put them in the sail bags and took them home. The main spreads out beautifully on the kingsize double bed. So I just turned the electric blanket on to three (the max) and presto within an hour the sail was perfectly dry. Then spread out the headsail and you guessed it within an hour as dry as ever. And what did the cheese and kisses say? Nothing but the look would have killed a grown man at 100 yards.

Great Creative Idea!

Good on ya mate! Some people come up with the greatest ideas and sometimes in hindsight the idea is perfectly obvious. “Why didn’t I think of that?” Quick and easy drying - you can't beat that combination. Is it possible to patent the idea? Just think, you could manufacture “marine grade” electric blankets and sell them in a chandlery at twice the price. Surely, I think, your better half must be pleased at your creativity. Maybe it was something else that set her off???

Drying a furled sail?

I just had roller furling installed on my 23.5 last weekend. If I ever come in from the rain with a furled wet jib, what should I do, especially if it's a week before I get back to the boat (90 minutes from home)? I'm 600 miles inland from the ocean, if the absence of salt makes a difference. Can I leave it for a day or two before opening it up to dry (hopefully by sailing in better weather the next day)?

Hi Alan - Yup on Cobb Island

Been at Cobb since Nov 2002. Came across to Colonial for the fire works on the 4th. Anchored inside for dinner and went out by the pier for the display. Spent the night anchored in the Potomac - hot but not bumpy. Jim S/V Java What's your boat and name?

Rick, I have an H23.5 with roller furler.....

I leave the boat in the water and the jib gets soaked every time it rains. It dries fine. The only reason to dry the sails is if your taking it off and storing it below. Hakuna Matata...................>
