I am planning to trailer my Mac 26M to Gulfport/Biloxi area for Christmas break...got to visit the in-laws.

Anyway, looking for info on marinas that have transient slips as I plan to leave the boat in the water for the two weeks I am there. Anyone know if Gulfport Marina is open again? What about a status of Longbeach Marina.

Looks like an interesting place to explore with the islands not too far off-shore. Looking forward to the trip.

Apprecaite any info.

Thanks,
Jim King

Gulfport is not open. Long Beach has slips available (I would think. There are plenty w/o boats in them). Each pier has a locking gate, and there is 24 hr security. Haven't had a problem in the two years I have been there.

Calvin Poupart is the harbormaster there. Here is the # (228)863-4795.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

LooseDiamond,

Do you know if Longbeach has storage area for trailers? I believe I see a ramp on Google Earth.

I will give the Harbour Master a call soon and start making arrangements.

Thanks for the 411.

Jim

Well, it is a public launch. All of that was redone in the last 2 years. No fee to launch or park. There is a parking lot in the front. First come, first serve, but never fills unless major holiday weekend. I have left vehicle there on 2 night/ 3 day sails without a problem back when I trailered.

Your are welcome. Anything else, let me know! (Be sure to go by Cajun Crawfish Hut to eat while you are down! Can't beat food or price!)

Jim,
Think I may have met you a couple years ago when a bunch of Gulf Coast sailors had a dinner get together at Fly Creek Marina. But I have slept since then, so maybe or maybe not. Another suggestion. Have heard that Point Cadet is now re opened in Biloxi. Right behind the Isle of Capri casino. Someone said it was open, and transiet slips were 10 bucks a night. Haven't checked this out yet, but is a bargain if true. Going to be over there in a few days, and will find out, along with a phone # if your interested.

Nice N Easy,

It wasn't me. I have never been to a gathering of Gulf Coast sailors...but sounds like fun to me.

I am leaning towards Long Beach right now due to convenience. My father-in-law has some property in LB so I can store my trailer there. I will be staying with my in-laws in Wiggins which is up Hwy 49 towards Hattiesburg...about an hour drive to LB each morning.

But LB wants $1 per foot...although when I spoke to the harbour master on the phone a few weeks ago when researching he mentioned that he may be able to make me a deal of some kind...no details.

Pt. Cadet Marina is #3 on my list right now. If you go I would appreciate a report on status of the marina, parking, slips costs, etc...

#2 on my list is Keesler AFB (I am active duty AF)...price and facilities is nice but it is over 9 miles to get out of the back bay into the Gulf.

Thanks,
Jim

Hope I'm not too late

Point Cadet marina is not yet open. I have managed to sneak in there a couple of times for the night, but is no way you could leave boat there for more than a night. Possibly two. If you go into Keesler AFB marina, be sure to say hi to Peter and Barbara. ( Seadance and Clueless) Have a H33 there, named Gin Mill. Good people.

The verdict is in...ended up at Keesler.

Wanted to use Longbeach but after going on three wild goose chases to look at slips that the harbour master told me to check out (they either had a boat in them already or had no finger pier) I decided that the fixed piers...about 5' above the water were not very nice. And the ramp was very shallow and fairly short...at least that is what the HM told me.

So I called up Keesler and they agreed to let me park my trailer on the premises since they are closed for the XMas holdays from 23 Dec to 4 Jan.

Keesler is very nice. Floating docks, convenient parking, electricity and water (but not sure if the water is turned on).

Sailed on Monday in the back bay...very limited due to the width of the channel. But on Tuesday got in a good 4 hours of sailing out in the Gulf. Lots of dolphins...very cool.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Keesler Docks are Much Better than Long Beach

It is a shame the location is so far back in the bay. I was there for several years and moved to Long Beach when the Wing CC shut down the marina after 9/11.

Make sure you visit the Blow Fly Inn while your there.
