I am buying a 1982 Catalina 27 that was donated to a non-profit organization. After a good survey report I have a few minor things to repair. The boat has 2 winches on each side of the cockpit with matching cleats except one of the cleats is missing. Its 6 inches long, 2 hole mount, and made of aluminum or stainless. Ive looked in 4 catalogs and gone to West Marine and havn't found one that comes close. I don't want to replace all 4. Has anyone got an idea where I could find one?

Have you tried Catalina Direct?

Catalina Direct might have what you're looking for. Their tech support #1-800-959-7245. If the parts aren't in their catalog they may be able to "special order" them. I've obtained a discontinued item that way. Good luck and congrats on your new purchase!

Schaeffer, maybe?

I think Schaeffer marine makes some two hole aluminum cleats. They call them "sailboat cleats" I think. Scheaffer has a presence on the web, but I don't know the address. Good luck--hope you can track down what you need. Randy

the best thing is to probably start from scratch

you might want to remove all of the cleats and patch the holes with West System epoxy (neatly) and purchasing four sheet cleats that are the same and bed them down with 3m 5200. It might seem like a lot of work, but sooner or later on a boat of that vintage you will end up rebedding just about everything that makes a hole in your boat. (I know from experience) If you would like more details on how to do it easily and relatively quickly, give me a shout.
