Dear Sirs I'm missing a bolt on my rudder and I wonder if someone could tell If I need it and what is it for? I have a picture of a rudder with the missing bolt in place. Lindsay

Ahhhh yea
Not an expert but it looks like it holds the rudder in place and keeps it from rotating around the big "pin" in the center of the fixture. this could be one of those pins that you put a durlin bolt in (alas you have a steel one) that keeps it from breaking the rudder when you are attacked by whales or back into a shoal. Sorry I could not resist. These (there are two bolts that I can see) that would be the durlin bolts that are sacrificial and protect the rudder in the event it does strike something.

Two parts missing.
Lindsay, You are missing two parts actually. That bolt holds a sleeve in that your rudder down haul line is fed around. The sleeve acts like a pulley to position the line correctly for proper deploying of the kick-up rudder. The bolt and sleeve also act as the stop for the rudder to set the proper angle. If you can locate a stainless steel bolt of the proper size and a section of stainless steel tubing that will fit in between the brackets you can make your own. Remember, the sleeve has to turn freely on the bolt so you will need a lock nut of sorts to set the proper tightness without binding. Good Luck S/V garinion Dan
