Just a Little

Tony, I took my barboat Chartering three-day course on a Mirage 30 at the New York Sailing School on Long Island Sound. I enjoyed sailing the boat a lot, found it roomy and comfortable, and it handled the 20 knot breeze well. I didn't like the traveller track moujnted just aft of the companionway entrance, but that is a cruising vs performance comment. I believe Mirage are (were?) Canadian made, and seem relatively few in number from my consistant searches for 27-30 ft boats at variious sites. This boat had doors enclosing a fairly generous pilot berth, which I thought was a nice touch for privacy, while I slept in a generous v-berth with a nice lexan hatch. I was looking for a smaller boat and got a Catalina 27 and I love her, but the Mirage 30 was much more commodious. If you want to try her out, NYSS charters her, even for weekends (not a long drive up from Havre de Grace and you could check out LI Sound!) Good luck
