Cross the Atlantic from France to Martinique in the Caribbean aboard a 6.5 Meter sail boat.
Win the race and you have a chance at participating in the elite World of Sailing.
And you ask... Why do they do it?
A win in the mini Transat could land you an IMOCA sponsorship, and an IMOCA sponsorship could be your ticket to the biggest and best of all offshore ocean races, the Vendée Globe.

Ellen McArthur did something like that. I just checked and she finished 17th, and I don't know if she got IMOCA sponsorship. But the Mini Transat was one of the stepping stones to her Vendee Globe campaign. Time capsule - that was in 2001 - nearly 20 years ago. Yikes!
