Dear Colleagues,
I have a Hunter 460 which has a mildewed matress in our aft port cabin. Does this mean that I should just give it up and buy a new one, or is there any know remedy to remove the midew and its odor?

Depending on how bad is the case. Mildew here in Florida is a fact of life so we use dehumidifiers to keep it in check. It helps to get them cushions out in a sunny day and let them sit in the sun and air them. You can vacum them before bringing back in and mask any lingering smell with a product like "Fabreeze".

Look up "cushions" on this web site. Seems there were a number of relevant posts on the subject recently. One suggestion was a soak in white vinegar and another: getting the Admiral to stand on plywood placed over the cushion to squeeze the water out!

We have dri-deck under our mattress (www.dri-deck.com). That way the bottom of the mattress never comes into to direct contact with the condensation that will be under every mattress. Made a major difference. We used to live in Seattle, so we know mildew well.
