My ? is. How do you keep the mildew under control on the interior wood finish in your boat? We are able to go about two weeks before we see it again. Granite this is during the hot months of July

Increase ventilation and a dehumidifier

The dehumidifier requires shore power...you can use a portable unit if you install a drain in the catch pan...put it on a counter in the galley and let it drain into the sink. Nicro solar vents with a ni-cad battery don't require power and can store enough solar energy to run for at least a day. Others can tell you where to install, what size and how many for your boat.

Lemon Oil

I have used lemon oil since I got my boat five years ago on the advice of the previous owner and never had a problem with mildew on the wood. Summer temperature is usually above 90 and we have a fair amount of humidity.

No mildew here!

At the beginning of the season we washed all the wood with Simple Green and oiled it with Lemon Oil(the good stuff). We also have a circulating charcoal filter unit. We keep 3 small tubs and 2 hanging units of Damp Rid in our 33.5. We typically see the humidity level in the boat @ 60%. we usually refill the Damp Rid containers about every week. We have not had any return of mildew since we did this. We do have one solar vent. The boat does smell fresh when we open her up. One other thing we did after we bought her was to take all the cushions off and use a carpet cleaner with upholstery attachment to clean them. We then sprayed them with Fabreeze. We did the woodwork cleaning after we had removed the cushions. Lots of work, well worth it. Bob S/V Frolic Some

Had the same problem

After trying many different approaches, I finally cleaned the whole interior with Tylex...would and all. I guess it's the bleach that worked. After the wood was cleaned, I applied lemon oil. It has lasted all summer with no sign of mildew.
