37c owners with travelers on the cabin top. How does your main sheet attach to the boom? Single point like the bridge deck traveler, or 3 single blocks spread fore and aft?

Hey Bill, going to move yours? The H37C Picture post has a few closeups. I see in the pictures that there are three attachment points on the boom. If I made that change I know that is how I would do it. Really need to spread the load.

Are you and Mary around this Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday?

Yes, gonna move it to the cabin top. For this week will be single point mount using existing main sheet tackle. Soon after that will have old pin stop traveler free for shipping costs.

Bill: I would highly recommend checking with Garhauer Marine. They have some very nice travelers and tech support too. They can/will custom cut the track.

Bought Garhauer, I like their stuff. Got the Catalina version with both traveler controls coming off the port side. Put towers on yesterday, plan to mount on cabin top tomorrow to determine line leads, notches need in dodger. Probably going to bow to crowd thinking and put 3 single blocks on boom, even though I don' believe this is necessary.

Ditto - 3 single blocks spread fore and aft.

If you did not do that would you use a fiddle block or a treble sheave block?

The spreading of the load may be highly advantageous in the event of a jibe that went bad.

What I will use initially is the big Garhauer vang that came as the main sheet when we bought the boat 4 years ago

Really Spread Out

The stress loads to the boom are really spread out with this rig! (see pic attached.) Good enough that a not-paying-attention-while-trying-to-take-a-picture-of-a-passing-Oracle-AC-72 accidental jibe in 25 kts winds didn't cause damage to the boom. Although the force was significant enough to shatter the delron bearings in a couple of the mainsheet blocks.

I like that. After I get the traveler mounted, I will see what I can do to spread the blocks. Traveler mounting postponed for now due to wet plywood in deck

One caveat from Dr Doom

My opinions on mid-boom sheeting are well documented in these boards.

The one thing I will add here is that the *best* setup for midboom sheeting does NOT involved a loose-footed mainsail, unless you don't mind your boom turning into a wishbone. The multiple sail slides in the track of the top of the boom on a conventional mainsail do much to ensure a consistent load along the length of the boom. The last thing you want to do is to point-load the boom at both ends and somewhere in the middle. It'll get even worse if you reef using in-mast furling during a blow.
