I am looking to purchase a mid 70's O'Day 27, and I'm wondering if there are any problems intrinsic to the model that I should look out for. One thing I noticed is that the bolts passing through the deck from one of the lifeline stantions has pulled the deck fibreglass loose. Is the deck balsa cored? I'm simply worried about water ingress. The stantion support bolts have no backing plates on the inside, which is something that would need to be addressed in any event. The boat has a 1 cylinder Yanmar diesel. Does anyone have any experience with these. Any comments will be greatly appreciated!

Check the engine for sure.

Yanmar diesels at that time were real noisy and stinky. That could begin to bug you on a long voyage with the engine chugging away. No doubt the engine is still okay after all those years but they do need service by qualified people. I'd try the engine before buying if I were you.
